In Leave, Amy Kinsella tells the story of the complex relationship she had with her controlling step-mother and father and how the struggles of a teenage girl going through puberty comes into play. Whether she is developing her sense of self or breasts, everything becomes an argument. The conflict builds to a climactic fight with her father that gives Amy the motivation to pack her bags, leave home, and move to Fort Saskatchewan to live with her mother. Years after the fight, Amy is now a university student and reflects on her relationship and how her life and perspective has changed since she left.
